Philippines
August 30, 2006Who wouldn’t miss the flying jeepneys on the road? Or the fighting drivers? Confused commuters? Who wouldn’t miss the overstaying buses which will also fly like killing machines on EDSA? How about the brave pedestrians that doesn’t care about the traffic lights? Or the traffic jams? The thick black air from smokers and smoke-belchers? The tak-a-tak vendors selling cigarettes, candies and skyflakes? Or funny-looking fat-bellied police men who runs after petty criminals but stops in mid-way, catching their breath?
The fishballs, squidballs, kikiam, isaw, barbeque, banana cue that one can enjoy wherever you are because vendors are everywhere. One wakes up upon hearing the manong shout “taho!” or “puto! kutchinta!”. Eating on the table with your feet up and talking loudly about the latest showbiz gossip. Flipping through local channels, seeing the same face over and over again - kris aquino. kris aquino. manny pacquiao. manny pacquiao. kris aquino.
Isn’t it grand to walk down a street and see different kinds of children - from small to tiny - running around and playing patintero, sipa, tago-taguan, piko, step-no or chasing after dogs, taking a bath in the middle of the street, or sucking the juice out of a santan flower?
But on the other hand, who would be happy about a blind government? corrupt officials? being in debt? seeing your taxes isn’t working for you? seeing the rich gets richer? seeing the poor being ignored?
There’s so many things to love about this country. Things that one would surely miss if they leave. Saying that many filipinos would like to leave this country would be a MAJOR understatement. It seems like no one wants to be a part of this country anymore. They want to leave everything behind. They’ve lost all hope on this country because they wouldn’t look at the simple things that a filipino can be proud of. All that they can see are the faults of the government. All they can look at is the negative side.
Puro reklamo na lang. Lahat na lang mali.
From my point of view, that is the very reason why the Philippines won’t prosper - hindi na kasi tinutulungan ng mga pilipino na umangat ang bansa nila. Ang nasa isip ng pinoy ngayon ay “I’d rather be anywhere, but here.” Don’t they understand? They are needed HERE. Every filipino is needed HERE. Our country needs us, bakit natin siya hindi pinapansin? Let’s say that its hard to love this country. Sino ba naman magtitiis kung lugmok na tayo sa utang. But what i’m saying is, why don’t we help our country out?
Call me stupid and hit me over the head with it, but I just don’t see the point of why one has to go to another country and use their talents there?! Your talents are needed HERE! Your intelligence is needed HERE! Your knowledge through years of studying is needed HERE!
But where are you going?
